Test pressure depends on the component rating and the governing standard. Many programs follow API guidance, which commonly calls for proof testing at 1.5 times the working pressure for new equipment, though field and recertification tests are often run at the rated working pressure. A component rated to 10,000 PSI may therefore be proof tested toward 15,000 PSI, which is why a 15,000 PSI ceiling covers most 10K and 15K oilfield applications.
